“Bottom Feeders” is dedicated to the lowest end of the Big Band. This contrafact on Charlie Parker’s “Confirmation” showcases the bass trombone, baritone saxophone, and bass throughout. The novelty of this chart is a sure-fire crowd pleaser. Ensemble-wise, a trombone/bari soli and an 8-bar interlude for the top four saxes break up the texture nicely. If you’ve got serious talent in the basement of your band, this is the chart for you.
